She has extensive experience as a public speaker on a variety of nutrition topics, such as obesity, diabetes, and digestive health. In her career, she has been a monthly contributor to Prevention Magazine as their Grocery Guru and Australian Weight Watchers Magazine.

For Julie, growing up in an Italian family put food right at the centre of her life. Her passion for delicious food was instilled early on, but over time Julie began to realise that certain types of food did not make her feel quite her best; she began to struggle with digestive issues and food intolerances. Julie tried seeking help for these issues through various methods, but was only ever told what foods to avoid, never which foods to actually eat. This lack of proper guidance on how to build a diet around food intolerances left her discouraged, sick, and afraid of eating the wrong thing. Julie decided to take matters into her own hands and to start studying nutrition herself, and thus began her own health journey which led her to becoming a passionate and highly sought-after dietitian and nutritionist. Julie was able to heal her own body by applying the scientific principles she learned through her studies at the Queensland University of Technology combined with a holistic approach to health to identify the root cause of her digestive problems. It is this whole-person, evidence-based approach which she currently brings to her practice as the founder of New Life Nutrition, a Brisbane-based dietitian private practice.

Through her studies, Julie learned that listening to your own body is the best way to achieve real health. Currently, she uses her extensive knowledge of food and nutrition to guide each client to identify his or her own individual approach to health. Julie deeply understands the need for tailored recommendations, there cannot be a one-size fits all method to achieving true well-being. In her almost 10 years as a practising dietitian and nutritionist, she has taught clients not to accept that feeling tired, sluggish or unwell is normal. Instead, she guides her clients towards ideal wellness, by laying a foundation to health with real, whole, quality food.

Julie is an expert in digestive health, she believes the gut is the true heart of the body. She has helped thousands of patients with gut issues - many of who have been struggling for years before finding her practice. She is trained in various gut-healing diets and is experienced in the RPAH elimination diet and the low FODMAP diet. Due to this in-depth expertise, many physicians and other health practitioners refer their patients to Julie to help with digestive ailments or food intolerances.

As a mother herself, Julie has also seen the impact food can have on a child’s behavior and learning ability. She loves guiding and helping families understand how food may affect children with various behavioral and concentration difficulties.

A cornerstone of Julie’s practice is weight management. She begins by approaching things differently from most traditional practitioners, by helping clients change their relationship with food in order to achieve long-term weight maintenance and slow sustainable weight loss. Julie regularly works with clients who have had issues losing weight in the past, specifically those struggling with hormone-related weight loss challenges, such as PCOS or menopause.

Julie currently lives with her husband and 3 children in Brisbane, Australia.

Julie is one of In Shape Mummy's dietitians and is the founder and director of New Life Nutrition.
