Howdy mums!

I'm Lisa, founder of the In Shape Mummy company. And I’m mum to an action-packed toddler and a superhero loving little boy. I am passionate about helping mums to live healthy and happy lives. Nice to meet you!

After my own struggles with weight and severe sleep deprivation (courtesy of my babies) I found a way to transform not only the way I look but the way I feel. After I found the way, I knew I had to share it. Together with my team of leading postnatal health experts, I started the In Shape Mummy company to help other mums do the same.

I breastfed both of my little ones until they were 2 so I spent a total of 4 years breastfeeding. I am passionate about breastfeeding and believe it is one of the best gifts you can give your precious baby. That's why I started this company, to support breastfeeding mums.

I attribute not only my weight loss, but my breastfeeding success and my sanity to our In Shape Mummy Health Shake.

 

I have a confession to make…

I am super passionate about health now, but I haven’t always been so healthy. In fact, in my life before babies I was quite the opposite.

I was a serial yo-yo dieter and a chocoholic. I used binge on chocolate and junk, and then I would go on all kinds of crazy eating and exercise regimes to shed the weight I’d put on… and this “yo-yo” cycle would continue. I did everything from starving myself, to eating a “yogurt only” diet to exercising like crazy.

I used to be so bloated all the time (so much so that it looked like I was pregnant!) and I had the worst stomach pains. I felt so tired and terrible.

 

But then… everything changed when…

I gave birth to my first beautiful baby. I wanted desperately to lose the weight I’d put on in pregnancy. But I also was worried about impacting my milk supply as I wanted to give my baby the best. I was worried my milk supply would dry up if I went back to a crazy diet.

I was constantly exhausted from the sleepless nights. I now know if someone claims they’re ‘tired’ and they haven’t had a baby… they don’t know what “tired” is!

Plus, my postnatal physiotherapist told me that strenuous exercise after child birth can cause a prolapse and that really scared me!

I was so distressed and couldn’t see a way out. Never in my life had I felt so out of control. I felt like a physical and mental wreck. I felt like a walking zombie from the sleep deprivation.

I was a physical and mental wreck! How did I overcome it?

I was not prepared to wave the white flag and surrender to the "babies change your body forever" mentality.

So I set out on a mission to read everything that I could get my hands on I could about weight loss and breastfeeding.

I looked into books, magazines, google, and weight loss plans. You name it, I took it in. But nothing I read, listened to or watched seemed understand the challenges that real breastfeeding mums face.

Firstly, as breastfeeding mums we can’t starve ourselves on one of those supermodel starvation diets you see in the magazines. If we did, our milk supply would dry up. And we’d have even less energy to cope with raising our little ones.

When you’re breastfeeding, your baby is depending on you for 100% of their nutrition. Diets that cut out major food groups are a definite “no-no”. We need extra nutrients to support our milk supply and precious baby’s development.

In an ideal world, we’d all spend hours cooking organic gourmet healthy meals and go to the gym every day. But, when you have a new baby, who has the time or energy for that?!

And after busy days and sleepless nights we don’t have the energy for extensive cooking, exhaustive boot camp style workouts or have time to go to the gym.

I thought the existing supplements might be a convenient answer but when I looked at weight loss shakes and products in the supermarket, I found that they were packed full of sugar, soy hormones, artificial ingredients and the list goes on. Certainly not suitable for breastfeeding my precious baby!

I was so passionate about finding a solution to this big problem that we sold our house to fund it.

My Results

I will never be overweight or yo-yo dieting again. Because I have learnt the secrets to keeping the weight off and being healthy for the rest of my life.
